Applicability of UNDS

What vessels are subject to UNDS requirements?

UNDS regulates discharges incidental to normal operations from:

• Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps vessels
• Military Sealift Command (MSC) vessels
• Coast Guard vessels.

UNDS does not apply to:

• Army Corps of Engineers civil works vessels (for example, dredges)
• Maritime Administration (MARAD) vessels
• Memorial and museum vessels
• Time- and voyage-chartered vessels
• Vessels under construction
• Vessels in drydock
• Amphibious vehicles.

Where is UNDS applicable?

UNDS requirements apply to all inland navigable waters and to the ocean waters out to 12 nautical miles.
