Outreach and Consultation
The UNDS outreach strategy emphasizes the importance
of establishing and maintaining open and continuous dialogue with
stakeholders, including other Federal Agencies, State water program
offices, Coastal Management Program representatives, and Tribes.
The DoD and EPA consider stakeholder involvement a valuable opportunity
to facilitate information exchange and discuss concerns.
The UNDS Program has established a process whereby the Navy,
EPA, and USCG meet with interested stakeholders to provide a
forum to discuss the scope of UNDS and the current technical
approaches being used in the UNDS development process. During
the consultation meetings, the Navy, EPA and USCG inquire about
stakeholder interests and concerns and use this input to refine
technical approaches. The Navy and EPA began consultation meetings
in Phase I and are continuing the process in Phase II. In addition,
the Navy and EPA participate in conferences to increase the opportunities
to discuss the UNDS process.
